None of this makes sense…it never does.
There is something immensly captivating and awe-inspiring by excellence. Individuals who are able to embrace failures, silence every voice including the one in the back of their head, have a drive almost superhuman, lean into who they are and manifest their greatness before we even see it. Kobe’s legacy is beyond basketball, to be able to inspire people on and off the court is a testament to his superhuman ability.
The most important thing is to try and inspire people so that they can be great in whatever they want to do.
I have always attested that I am comfortable with the thought of death, I even wrote about it a while back. However this news has rattled me in a way that nothing has in a while. It’s not that I believe any of us can escape the one sure thing in life, death, it’s that it strikes the chord of my own mortality. A stark reminder of nothing being promised and triggered one of my longtime fears…mediocrity and being average.
We can always kind of be average and do what’s normal. I’m not in this to do what’s normal.
If there is one thing that I have always known and that is that being tunnel visioned can be incredibly beneficial. Not everyone is gonna understand you or support you but you owe yourself exceptional moments. The blessing that is the daily opportunity we are afforded to open our eyes, not worry about our basic necessesities, be able bodied and sound minded, come home safe at night to family and loved ones.
It’s the one thing you can control. You are responsible for how people remember you—or don’t. So don’t take it lightly.
Ya Allah please always allow us to remember that you are our provider and never let gratitude to you and you alone leave our hearts.
A lot of the noise around us has our persepctives skewed and we waste time and energy on things that do nothing for us. If you need to forgive someone to unload that heaviness on your chest, do it. Call up your loved ones and just talk to them. Sit down with yourself and decide what you want your story to be and what you want to be remebered for. So many tweets about what we hoped to see from Kobe and the incredibly new chapter he was on, the tragedy cuts that much deeper when the person is taken ‘too soon’. Isn’t that what we all do, plan, imagine, dream?
The most important thing is you must put everybody on notice that you’re here and you are for real.
OWN WHO YOU ARE.
We are all so incredibly unique. The fact that we’re here in itself is a God-given miracle. We are each built in a particular way for whatever it is that we are meant to do but we live in a world that has conditioned us to believe that there is only one way to be cool, successful, beautiful. You are indescribable and incomparable by default. So you either wake up and make a choice, you work twice as hard for what you want or you choose to sit down and let the years pass and wake up one day with panic.
I’m reflective only in the sense that I learn to move forward. I reflect with a purpose.
I think what strikes me the most about all of this is that I have a relationship with my dad the way Kobe and Gigi did. Many people have asked him about his legacy and only having daughters and he has always said that we were twice as good as any boy. A dad that is a leader, who is present and loving and supportive is next to none. My thoughts are definitely with the families of this tragedy, I can’t even begin to imagine!
The Mamba Mentality will live on in so many of us. 8 to 24 Forever! Thank you Kobe 🕊
We all die. The goal isn’t to live forever, the goal is to create something that will.’Chuck Palahniuk
